The Best Vintage Airline Neon Signs

The Best Vintage Airline Neon Signs

Do you want a vintage airline sign for your space? - take your decor to the next level with a vibrant neon sign.

Aviation signs are prevalent; I wanted to create a range of aviation signs that combine the vibrant designs and prints we used to see flying through the skies with LED neon.

This collection of vintage aviation signs is based on airlines that have ceased operations in the last 100 years.

The signs are made with a combination of techniques - we UV-print the design to the backboard, then overlay the design with LED neon flex - highlighting the design's key elements - I've outlined this process below the list.

  • Vintage airlines have some of the most beautiful logos
  • We've taken some of the most famous vintage airline logos and turned them into gorgeous neon signs

Pan Am

Airlines don't get much more iconic than Pan Am. Pan Am (short for Pan American) was America's largest airline until it ceased operations. It was founded in 1927 and ceased operations in 1991. We based this sign on the beautiful Pan Am logo. The logo is printed on the backboard, and then the key elements of the design are outlined with white and blue LED neon.

If you love Pan Am, get yourself to check out this design. The below is the completed sign, you can view the technical drawing on the product page.

Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines was founded in 1937 and ceased operations in 2012. We based this sign on the design's vintage logo - with the eagle. We thought it was just so beautiful we had to use this design. This gorgeous logo was designed to be turned into a neon sign - and here it is!

The neon sign features a round white background with a blue, white, and red eagle. We outlined the key elements in the design with the correct LED neon colors.

United Airlines

United Airlines is one of the few airlines still running on this list. They were founded in 1931 and are still running today - in a few more years, they'll hit the 100 years operating.

We based this sign on the vintage United Airlines logo (from their early years of operating). We think it's so beautiful that we had to use this version of their logo. It features a slanted shield with red, white, and blue. We print this design to the backboard and then overlay the essential elements in the design with an LED strip - this brings the sign to life.

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines has been operating since 1929 and is the oldest operating airline in the United States. We wanted to include the design below in our range because the design is so beautiful and represents a point in time when the design was valued.

We took the vintage Delta logo and turned it into a neon sign - we printed the logo on the backboard and then overlayed the design with LED neon in red, white, and blue. I think this logo is much better than the airline's current one.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines was founded in 1966 and is still operating today. We took an early iteration of their logo, which features a wing design with yellow, sky blue, and bright red love hearts in the design. There really aren't many logos designed quite as beautifully as this - I think if I were a pilot, I'd be proud to wear this kind of symbol on my sleeve.

If you're a fan of vintage aviation, check out the design below. It's well-suited for home decor.

Braniff Airways

Braniff Airways was founded in 1928 and ceased operations in 1982 - they also had a gorgeous logo that was made to be turned into a neon sign.

The design is round, with capitals and script fonts in use, and a picture of North, Central, and South America is in the design - the central countries that Braniff Airways would fly to/from.

TWA

Trans World Airlines (also known as TWA) was founded in 1930 and ceased operations in 2001. We based our neon sign design on the vintage TWA logo with the "TWA" in bright red and the two intersecting Worlds - representing a 2D World map laid flat.

The design is printed on the backboard and then highlighted with LED neon in red and yellow to match the logo colors. See the image below.

Eastern Air Lines

Eastern Air Lines was founded in 1926 and ceased operations in 1991. Their logo is terrific, with two-tone blue, red, and white, and they feature an eagle design. This design was one of their original logos, and I think it turns out perfect when made in neon - see the final result below.

If you're seeking some unique aviation wall art, consider this for home decor in your man cave, garage, or office setting.

America West Airlines

America West Airlines was founded in 1981 and ceased operations in 2007. We took their logo and turned it into a neon sign. We UV-printed the America West logo on the backboard and then outlined the design's main elements with warm white and red LED neon.

This logo was used on the tail of their planes - check it out.

Midway Airlines

Midway Airlines was founded in 1976 and ceased operations in 1991. We took their original logo, with the script font and all-blue design, and turned it into a neon sign. The design features the Midway Airlines logo, which is UV-printed on the backboard, and the letters and design are outlined with blue LED neon.

If you like vintage aviation signs, you should consider this one.

Technical - How our UV-Print Neon Signs are Made

Unlike a metal sign, ours are made with an acrylic backboard, which is UV-printed with a replica of the original airline logo.

Once printed, we trace and outline the critical elements of the design using LED neon. The LED neon is mounted to the backboard, and we have the final design.
